you have answered your own question !
anatomy class will help you a lot .
good luck
There’s no substitute for a good figure drawing class. A good figure drawing class will teach you to draw three-dimensionally (i.e. even if you’re just looking at one side of a figure you can draw it from all sides). FIGURE DRAWING. That’s your answer.
Life drawing, anatomy, and perspective.
Life drawing will teach you gesture, form, weight, balance, proportions, mood, and line
Anatomy teaches you where everything is, once you know what your drawing, and what your seeing your life drawing will improve x 100
Perspective - to draw a character you have to be able to place their feet on the floor, draw that arm going back in space, the tilt of the rib cage the depth of the skull.
These three subjects work together to make good drawings.
If you can only take one take life drawing.
In the mean time get a sketch book specifically for drawing from life, spend alot of time out at the mall, park, skating rink, where ever doing sketches that take less then 5 minuets each.
Buy an anatomy book, I really like books from Bumus, Robert beverly Hale, Joseph Sheppard.
Sketch all the drawings in there as many times as you can. Practice drawing skeletons, skulls, the groups of muscles. Find the muscles on your own body (or a friends) and see how they look and feel in 3D (books only work so well)
I’ve even spent time painting the muscles in my arm and leg just to get a better understanding.
Once you understand the figure through and through you can draw it in any pose, from any angle. If you know your perspective.
