The best way to ensure that there is active learning going on is to make sure you include at least one activity during each lesson where you aren’t standing in the front and talking and the students are working. This includes having the students answering worksheets, working on projects, researching something on the internet, explaining a concept they learned to each other etc. Basically, after you teach a concept, give the students an activity that forces them to actually use what you taught them. This allows students to practice the knowledge and for you to see if they understood it or not. Ask yourself - what can I have the students do that would force them to actually use the knowledge I taught them?

If you want more specifics, you will have to specify what age group you’re teaching and what subject, since certain activities only work well for certain grades and subjects.
