I learn a few things new about computers once in a while, but I’ve been using the computer since I could move my hands. age 14
I was in like 2nd grade..my best friend had a computer and i went on it all the time when i was there so i basically grew up with it.

I learned to use a computer when my mom started showing me stuff when we got Windows 95.

I’m 17, and have been using computers since I was about 5.
I just use it to keep in touch with friends, store music and photos, and look up information.
idk how i learned. just typed. lol. in middle school they made us take a typing course on computers. man was that boring!i did take graphic communcations at my HS (votech school) so i have a degree in that. plus i learned recently how to delete the popup counter

i learnt to use the computer naturally growing up, no help whatsoever.
My Dad taught me some things and I learned the rest myself.
I started using a computer when i was about 8 or 9 years old. Thats when i started getting hooked on video games lol. Things like microsoft word or powerpoint is pretty easy for me to use… I dont need tutorials or anything. I just play around with the tools and see what they do.
I am a high schooler, so i have pretty much grown up on the computer. i find most of the things to be intuitive. honestly, i am kind of surprised that, as a fifty-year-old, you already have the kind of proficiency that you obviously do by posting here. most people I know that are your age are actually scared of the computer and won’t even make an effort. don’t worry about being a slow learner. everyone learns at his own pace.

I’m 41 years old. About ten years ago we bought a webTV thing, internet access through a set top box. After awhile I wanted the real thing so I bought my first computer about nine years ago. I learned by trial and error and I am always learning new stuff.
I’m 50 too and have only had a computer for almost 2 years. I just dove right in and taught myself. I wore out the help on it though. There is still a lot I don’t know but I search questions here or ask myself and usually can figure out what I’m trying to do.
im not stupid, i got on a computer when i was like 6 years old and now here i am on a computer.
Best way to learn how to use the computer is Play with it… try stuff… mess around… just try not to delete things
I grew up using a computer. My grandma had one, and she taught me a lot of the basics when I was 5. I’m 16 now, and I still am learning some.
I took a couple computer classes between HS and College…but pretty much taught myself about the internet…
I’ve been using computers from a young age (about 11) and I have become very adept in using them. I can use all of the Office Programs well (maybe with the exception of MS Excel) and I know a lot about the different types of software available. I can make online slideshows and post them on youtube etc and my typing speed is 91 words per minute. I just have a natural interest in using computers and the learning never stops. I have recently learnt how to circumvent the copyright restrictions on DVDs. I am now learning about file conversion + learning how to get a full DVD onto my phone.
I am lucky my partner works for a large computer company SCC or SCH so we all learnt all we know from him .. i think i know more then he does now !
I used to play computer games (If you could call them that) when I was like 3-5 or maybe alittle older I don’t remember but I remember we had one in First school (which had the same CRT monitor so that age must be about right) – my dad had a massive box of Floppy disk games. I just went on from there I was like computer nerd in middle school so consequently I was bored stiff of IT lessons in Highschool (they moved so slowly explaining every little feature of Word and Powerpoint I had known since middleschool) and since I wasn’t interested anymore I never got into coding or any of that stuff so I use them purely for entertainment.
You’ll get it everything fits together after a while and you’ll feel like you’ve been using them forever. (Everything is so similar phones and anything with a microchip has the same sort of menus you just need to know how to find what you want.)
I earn my living designing computer networks. I have been doing this since I left the service in 1971. I finished grad school in 1973 and started a career in computing. I am 61.
i taught myself
I bought my first computer with Windows 98 Second Edition and upgraded to Windows XP about a year and a half later. I just use it and explore what is available in the menus, etc. Too many people are “afraid” to try things in the programs they open, that is their problem with learning. Just don’t go into the system’s configuration and change things you don’t know about and everything will be fine.
Learned how to install the operating system and devices right away and when I upgraded to XP (much less crap needed for the devices than with Windows 98). Also got a CD Burner and learned out to backup my personal documents, etc. so knowing I wouldn’t lose anything important made exploring and trying things more comfortable.
There weren’t any computer classes in my school (they had a couple of Radio Shack monochrome things with cassette tape games) and there wasn’t any local instruction until after I had my computer for a few years.
Some of the people here are clearly lying about how they learned completely on their own. They are forgetting that every time they sat down with someone else or just watched someone else do something on a computer, that they were receiving training. They are ignoring the fact, and your question, by assuming that every one had these experiences and “training”.
Just got on and started messing with it,never actually diving deeper into something until I understood it’s basis and always looking for a safe escape (just push X) remove yourself from the situatoin.
Your best friend is save and your nemesis is delete.

we allways learning everyday. i started using computers when i was about 16 that when they came to use them more and more.
my brother and uncle no a lot about computer i have a laptop and desk top

i learned how to use a computer when i was 6 or7…….i am finished learning, im 11.i just started playing on nick jr, and as i sarted gettin older i clicked new stuff….i click mostly everything that idk what it is
my electronic highway is a dusty trail. I am 60 and a contractor. My fingers are to big to type and this damn thing is always in the ditch. I got throwed off Y/A for speaking my mind to some idiot and it took me a week to get back on. Had to lie , cheat and steal to start another account. I guess you could say i’m still learning but Some things I don’t even touch. Lost my e-mail one time, never did find it.

I only started becoming with the internet, and the computer in 2007 when I decided to go back to school.
I had to be patient with myself, and just gain some acceptance that I needed to start with the basics.
As I did this, I began to learn lil by lil, and until before I knew it…Hurray!!…I was off and running.
I still dread taking my computer classes, but not nearly as much as in the beginning. Just keep asking questions on whatever puzzles you, and do as much “fiddling” as you can on your own.
No worries, it will come, you want to learn it…so how could it not?

i began learning in 1983 the year i bought my first PC and i have kept going from there the PC was an old school timex sinclair 1000 i bought it from an old montgomery wards store and i grew to hate it lol but my love for computers grew and today i have a gateway pc and i use it daily

I’m 54 and first used a Panasonic Electronic Typewriter while working for the government. Then we got PCs. Remember Le Menu? I took a few classes and learned Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I finally got a computer at home and really began to learn. I had a 486 with 8GB of RAM and a 250mb hard drive! whoaaaaaaaaaaa! When something went wrong with it, I learned how to correct it. Talking to other computer users is a big help, also. No one learns 100%. We are continually learning as technology advances.
I learned by trial an error, when I first got a computer I just fumbled along, I love it so, I just bugged everyone an everyone and I have taken a college class, but it didn’t teach me more than I had learned on my own. guess it was the way the class was formatted, but one day I might still take a good computer class
When I was about 40, I asked my secretary to so how me, but she was pretty intimidating , and made me feel stupid. Besides, I never had to use it. I always was afraid that I might break something and get into trouble. One day when she was out and nobody was available to help me. I had to answer questions and do a critique completely in 2 hours. I panicked, but some of the things she showed me came back into my memory, I completed the report on time and felt very proud of myself. Ever since I have used computers,Google, go onto the internet and participate in Y/A. I must confess however that I am somewhat addicted, and isolated because I spend lots of time now on the computer. I would like to learn now, how to cut and paste, Excel programming, transferring website info for my questions, and how to use the income tax programs.
Grew up with an early computer in the house (zx spectrum, Amstrad 464 etc)
Then it was all down to trial and error, experimentation if you will, and it did help having a couple of geeky friends to tell me where i went wrong..
